Mildred “Millie” Bernadine Murtha, 100, of Platte, SD went to her heavenly home Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Mass is 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Geddes, SD. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 22, 2019 with a 6:45 P.M. Rosary and 7:00 P.M. Wake Service.

Mildred “Millie” Bernadine (Westendorf) Murtha was born on August 8, 1918 to Fred and Regina (Ricken) Westendorf in Geddes, SD. She graduated from Geddes High School in 1936 and went on to attend Seamstress School in White Lake, SD. On April 23, 1946, Millie was united in marriage to James D. Murtha on the Westendorf family farm near Geddes. She took pride in being a faith-filled wife, mother and homemaker; she was also a skilled seamstress.
Millie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE, St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Platte and active in the American Legion Auxiliary while in South Sioux City, NE. She was often seen with a smile on her face and book in hand. Millie enjoyed reading, sewing and playing cards with friends. She also traveled with her sisters, touring several religious sites. Millie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in Millie’s life: her two daughters: Mary (Dan) Pranger of Mitchell, SD and Jean (Jim) Williamson of Luverne, MN; four grandchildren: Christopher Pranger, Brittney (Elliot) Nathan, Amber Ernst and Erin Ernst; a brother, Eugene (Rosie) Westendorf of Platte, SD; a sister-in-law, Donna Westendorf of Oregon; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, James (Apr. 2, 1979); a grandson, James Daniel Ernst (Dec. 1986); her parents; five brothers; and seven sisters.
