Marie Mae Petula, 99, of Kimball, SD passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. Funeral Mass is 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball. A Committal Service will follow at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. prior to services on Wednesday with a 10:00 A.M. Rosary.

Marie Mae (Mika) Petula was born on May 11, 1920 to Joseph, Sr. and Anna (Nedavaska) Mika on the family farm south of Kimball, SD. She attended Mika Country School through the eighth grade and spent several winters in Omaha, Nebraska working at Scott Supply Tent and Awning and the Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum. On May 2, 1949 Marie was united in marriage to Frank Petula at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball. From this union three daughters were born: Darlene, Delores and Dianne.
After Frank’s passing in 1957, she began working at Brook’s Hardware in Kimball. Marie was united in marriage to Joseph Petula on May 28, 1960 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Marie was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church where she taught CCD and was active in St. Margaret’s Choir, Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering and made many quilts and afghans. Marie also spent much time gardening and growing flowers.
Grateful for having shared in Marie’s life: two daughters: Darlene (Ruben) Vogel and Delores (Tim) McEntee both of Mitchell, SD; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Lori (Al) Bierschbach – Derek and Megan, Mark (Sandra) Vogel – Abby and Alexis, Kathy (Ivan) Promov – Ian, Bryan (Paula) Vogel – Madison and Haley, Jason McEntee – Tatum, Quenton (Toni) McEntee – Avery and Alexis; along with several nieces and nephews; and a host of good friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Petula; her second husband, Joseph Petula (1997); her daughter, Dianne Petula (1969); her parents, Anna and Joseph Mika, Sr.; a sister, Lydia Fuchs; two brothers: Frank Mika and Joseph Mika, Jr.; a nephew, James Faulkner and several in-laws.
