Jean Ann Meyerink, 86, of Brandon, SD, formerly of Platte, SD, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Bethany Meadows in Brandon. A Celebration of Life is 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Saturday. Jean Ann Meyerink was born on May 22, 1934, in Platte, SD, to Zenus and Hazel (Plath) Burma. She attended Platte High School, graduating in 1952. The same year she married the love of her life, Harlow Meyerink on June 2, 1952. She also later obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
Jean was a country school teacher for many years, but also worked for World Book Encyclopedia in South Dakota and Nebraska, where she won numerous awards. After retiring she continued to tutor in her home town of Platte where she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
In down time Jean enjoyed baking and playing cards with family and friends… bowling not so much! She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, and enjoyed teaching Awana.
Grateful for having shared her life are, her children: Dave Meyerink of Brandon, SD and Rebecca Laackmann of Springfield, MO; brothers: Harry (Ruth) Burma of Platte, SD and Orv (Carol) Burma of Redwing, MN; sister, Joann Kuipers of Platte, SD; 6 grandchildren: Jon (Tracy) Meyerink, Heather (Dan) Dubro, Jana Meyerink (Mark Anderson), Jodi (Steve) Beach, Jenee (GI) Iyer, and Jason (Arielle Horowitz) Laackmann; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Irene Zwaggerman of Bozeman, MT, Lillian Beukelman of Sioux Falls, SD, Adriana (Eddie) Van Zee of Newton, IA and Rose Meyerink of Thornton IL; along with several family and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by: her parents, Zenus and Hazel Burma; husband, Harlow Meyerink; son, Craig Meyerink; granddaughter, Christina Laackmann; great grandson, Jacob Dubro; and brother, Mervin Burma.
